New for 2014!! The Northampton Saints Monarch Rugby Academies have a long track record of helping young players develop their talents, and now, for the first time, the club is offering a four-day course which combines our successful existing three-day courses with an additional day of specialist kicking coaching!
The Monarch Academies include skills, drills, competitions and loads of fun, all tailored to the individual age groups and delivered by our fully qualified coaches! Participants could also receive coaching from some of the Saints’ professional players, and there is also the possibility of getting spotted by a member of our Academy coaching staff, too!
U7/8 children will hone their skills in tag rugby, the non-contact version of the sport. U9 and older children are separated into individual age groups and will be coached on: running and handling skills; tackling, contact and breakdown areas; support play and game shape; defensive work and alignments; overall game management; other areas as required.
Participants will be also be taught the different technical aspects of every kick – place kicking, kicking out of hand (including box kicking and grubber kicking), and drop kicking – and where and when the various types of kick should be used in a game situation. You will also receive a special hand-out so you can keep practicing at home!
All participants will receive a special Saints t-shirt and other goodies, with awards handed out to teams and individuals.
All participants will require the following – rugby kit (suitable for the weather conditions), rugby or football boots, a change of clothes and footwear for possible indoor sessions, drinks and a packed lunch. Participants can also bring their own kicking tee if required, although tees will be available on the day.
